Woman struck, killed by train

---- — BEVERLY — A woman was struck and killed by a train yesterday morning on a section of tracks in the Prides Crossing neighborhood.

Officials did not identify the woman, other than to say she was a white female, or indicate why she was on the tracks.

The accident took place about 9:50 a.m. on the tracks near Common Lane, a wooded area about a mile from the Prides Crossing train station and a half-mile from the nearest road, Thissel Street.

Transit Police said the woman was trespassing on the tracks when she was struck by the train. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The train had left from Rockport and was heading toward Boston. The accident caused delays on the Rockport/Newburyport line. Shuttle bus service was provided for the train’s passengers.

Transit Police detectives and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office are investigating.
