Train victim was a college student

BEVERLY — Officials have identified the victim in Wednesday’s fatal train accident as a 22-year-old college student.

MBTA spokesman Joe Pesaturo said it “remains unclear” why the woman was on the tracks when she was struck by an in-bound train about 9:50 a.m.

The accident took place in a wooded area of the tracks near Common Lane in the Prides Crossing section of the city. Transit Police detectives and the Essex County District Attorney’s Office are investigating.
