---- — SALEM — Police say a 77-year-old motorcyclist escaped serious injury after he was rear-ended by a pickup truck on the Bridge Street on-ramp to the North Street overpass yesterday afternoon.

An officer responded to that location after a 12:27 p.m. report of the crash and determined a motorcycle operated by Robert Carbone of Danvers had been struck from behind by an Ford F150 operated by Christopher Whitmarsh, 50, of Rowley, after Carbone stopped to yield to traffic, according to the incident log and an interview with an officer.

Carbone was transported to Salem Hospital with minor injuries.

Whitmarsh was cited for following another vehicle too closely.

The motorcycle sustained damage to its taillight, rear fender and license plate, according to the log. It was towed.

The truck sustained damage to its grill and bumper.
