Police were unable to locate a suspicious man with a sledge hammer who was reported to be in the area of 408 Essex St. at 5:12 p.m.

About 7:30 p.m., an officer in the area of 65 Washington St. confiscated two swords from an individual and issued him or her a $150 fine.

Officers stopped a man on Washington Street and confiscated a 1-foot knife and a 1.5-foot machete from him about 7:40 p.m.

About 8 p.m., police on Washington Street confiscated a sword from a woman and issued her a $150 fine.

Officers at the Essex Street Mall confiscated a samurai sword from a man about 8:50 p.m. The man “related it was part of his costume, but understood why he could not have it. It was seized and he was told he could pick it up at the station the next day.”

Officers on Washington Street about 9 p.m. seized a sword from a man and issued him a $150 fine, then seized a knife from another man.

Police in the area of Essex and Washington streets at 9:09 p..m. confiscated a 4-foot pitchfork from a “cooperative” man, according to the log.

At 9:11 p.m., officers in the area of Essex and Washington street observed an altercation between two men. One of them -- a preacher with a loudspeaker -- told them he’d been punched by the other, but that he didn’t want to press charges. The other man denied having assaulted him.

A 9:55 p.m. report of a fight brought police to the Salem Common. Ariel Zorrilla, 18, of 11 Wagner St., Peabody, was arrested on charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon and resisting arrest.

Police were unable to locate a woman who was reported to be screaming in the area of Washington and New Derby streets at 10:02 p.m.
