Marblehead teacher facing child porn charges

MARBLEHEAD — A Marblehead High School physics teacher has been placed on leave after he was charged in Rhode Island this week following an investigation into child pornography.

William Morgan, 30, of 18 Maverick St., Marblehead, was arraigned Thursday in a district court in Warwick on charges of possessing child pornography and transfer of child pornography, state police in that state announced.

The case was the result of an undercover investigation by Rhode Island state police, the United States Marshals and the Secret Service. Morgan was one of 11 men arrested.

Investigators identified the suspects, who were involved in file-sharing groups, then executed search warrants that turned up numerous still images and videos of child pornography.

Morgan and nine of the others arrested this week were released on their own recognizance, with conditions that include no contact with minors and no use of the Internet while the case is pending.

Others arrested include a bus monitor for a Rhode Island school district, a medical student working at a Warwick hospital, and a member of the Rhode Island National Guard.

Marblehead school superintendent Maryann Perry said in a statement that the school has placed Morgan on administrative leave and is conducting its own investigation.

“We note that right now these are allegations and we are investigating this matter to determine the facts,” said Perry. “Pending the completion of our investigation the employee has been placed on administrative leave, has been barred from any contact with Marblehead students, and has been barred from accessing any Marblehead Public Schools buildings, property, or events.”

“As always, the safety and welfare of our students is our highest priority and we will take all precautions and measures necessary to protect our students,” Perry said.
