---- — SALEM — Police say an armed robber put a knife to a man’s stomach in front of a store on New Derby Street early yesterday morning -- and got just $2 for the effort.

An officer responded to the fire station headquarters on Lafayette Street about 1 a.m. after a report of an assault, but soon determined what had actually occurred was an armed robbery, according to the incident log.

The victim said he’d been in front of the Walgreen’s when a man approached and “asked him about the bus schedule,” then put the knife to his stomach.

“He then took $2 from his left pocket,” police wrote.

The suspect was described as being white and 6 feet tall, and was wearing a brown jacket and a black hooded sweatshirt. He was accompanied by a woman, though police provided no description of her.

Police searched the area but were unable to locate the two.

No injuries were reported.
