Salem to get middle school report tonight

It also recommended a common code of conduct for all three schools and common academic standards.

Mayor Kim Driscoll said she would like to see the middle school initiative include Salem Academy Charter School, the public and independent charter school in Shetland Park.

Driscoll said both the district schools and charter school can benefit from working together.

The School Department undertook the middle school study after the state designated Salem a Level 4 district based on low MCAS scores and other factors.

School officials said they also are concerned about declining enrollment at the sixth grade as students transfer out of the system.

Tonight’s meeting starts at 7:30 p.m. at Collins Middle School.
