Marblehead chamber promotes spring fling

MARBLEHEAD — You’ve heard of Christmas in July. How about Christmas in April?

Don’t expect Santa and his reindeer, but Chamber of Commerce Director Deb Pesanti Payson is promising the kind of weekend usually seen during the yearly Christmas Walk. In other words, she’s trying to duplicate the fun and excitement of that increasingly popular event for the chamber’s first Spring Fling. It’s set for Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., all over town with more than 20 businesses participating.

Expect Marblehead shops and institutions to feature every kind of fun, including dancing, games, good eats, good buys, and even a little history and culture, she said.

“We’ve had a rough winter,” Payson said. “It’s been very cold.”

The Spring Fling is expected to shake out some of the cobwebs and get people strolling on the streets.

“The Christmas Walk is very inspiring and exciting. So, we had the idea — Why don’t we do it in the spring?” she said.

Games, including Candy Bingo, will be offered for the kids. Adults can expect treats like champagne and various arts and crafts. The dancing will actually happen unannounced in shop windows.

“The list of things is endless,” Payson said.

Pets aren’t forgotten either with instructions on dealing with dogs.

The Jewish Community Center will be open and free for the day if anyone wants to get in some exercise. Marblehead Arts Association will be represented, and Marblehead Historical Society Museum will be open.
