Applications for the $2500 Andrew Metropolis Scholarship, offered by the Peabody Historical Society and Museum, are available at Historical Society Headquarters, 35 Washington St., Peabody, by mail or at the society’s website, www.peabodyhistorical.org. To be eligible, a student must be a resident of Peabody, be a graduating member of the 2014 senior class of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, and committed to pursuing a degree in history, museum studies, historic preservation or political science. Gordon’s Theatre Arts Department presents “Metamorphoses” by award-winning playwright Mary Zimmerman, on stage April 9, 10, 11 and 12 in the Margaret Jensen Theatre of the Barrington Center for the Arts, 255 Grapevine Road, Wenham. Under the direction of professor of theater arts Jeffrey S. Miller, the play explores the tension between the real and the transformational, the human and the mysterious, told through vignettes of classical Greek myth and drawn together by the universal need for water. The Friends of Beverly Public Library’s annual Spring Book Sale runs through Sunday during regular library hours, Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; Friday and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, 1 to 5 p.m., at 32 Essex St., Beverly. The sale features a large selection of hardcover and paperback books for all ages and tastes. A smaller selection of music and movies will also be available. All proceeds from the sale benefit the library.

Children’s Friend and Family Services seeks volunteer mentors ages 21 and older from a variety of backgrounds. Each mentor will be matched with one youth, between the ages of 5 and 18, from the North Shore. Mentors and youths meet every week for at least two hours.
