North Shore News in Brief

In partnership with B&S Event Management, the North Shore Community Development Coalition will host the third annual Energize the Earth 5K/10K run/walk on Sunday, April 27, at 10 a.m., at Lynch Park, 55 Ober St., Beverly. The event attracts participants from all over New England with a focus on clean, green living. All proceeds will benefit the North Shore CDC’s sustainable affordable housing and community development work. Both the 5K/10K will start at 10 a.m. and finish at Lynch Park. Walkers are welcome and encouraged to participate in the 5K. The first 500 runners to register will receive a custom branded race shirt and bag of goodies. Online registration will remain open until noon on Saturday, April 26, and reopen at 8:30 a.m. on race day at Lynch Park. For details and registration, visit www.northshorecdc.org or www.bnseventmanagement.com.

Salem residents who know of a pothole on a public roadway should help the city by reporting it directly to Department of Public Services by emailing potholes@salem.com or calling 978-744-3302. Include the exact address or a location description, along with a contact name and telephone number if possible. Feel free to send photos, as well. Reporting a pothole does not guarantee it will be immediately repaired that day; it will be added to the list for DPS crews to fix. DPS prioritizes potholes based on their severity and attempts to work in geographic clusters to maximize efficiency of resources.

Applications for the $2500 Andrew Metropolis Scholarship, offered by the Peabody Historical Society and Museum, are available at Historical Society Headquarters, 35 Washington St., Peabody, by mail or at the society’s website, www.peabodyhistorical.org. To be eligible, a student must be a resident of Peabody, be a graduating member of the 2014 senior class of Peabody Veterans Memorial High School, and committed to pursuing a degree in history, museum studies, historic preservation or political science. Submission deadline is April 12, 2014. For information, call 978-531-0805.
