A resident of 24 Norman St. told police at 11:13 a.m. that on Wednesday at 3 p.m. she was doing her laundry in the building’s facility, and when she returned at 4:30 p.m., she noticed a pair of Levis jeans, valued at $85, a pair of Victoria’s Secret sweatpants, valued at $50, and a red sweatshirt, valued at $25, were missing from the wash.
A woman reported at 11:49 a.m. that she had been followed from a Washington Street restaurant the night before by a middle-aged man wearing jeans who left the restaurant around 10:45 p.m., the same time she did. The man followed her to her car, which she got into and locked. The man approached the passenger side door and attempted to open it, she said. The woman drove away. She said she had never seen the man before, and he appeared intoxicated.
A laptop, lock box and Apple iPad were reportedly taken from an apartment at 28 Tremont St. at 12:37 p.m.
At 1:51 a.m., a caller reported a possible break-in in progress at 202 Rantoul St. Police conducted a search of the area and spoke with the staff of Spotlight Tavern who did not notice anything suspicious.
Past vandalism to a vehicle was reported at 738 Hale St. at 2:22 a.m.
American Alarm reported that on their surveillance system they could see someone walking around the lot of the Auto Body Clinic with a flashlight at 5:11 a.m. Police did not find anyone in the area, and the business appeared secure.
Burned food tripped a fire alarm in an apartment at 327 Rantoul St. at 7:06 a.m.
Police responded to a report of two teens threatening each other at 9:06 a.m. at 502 Cabot St., the Memorial Building, the location of Northshore Recovery High. James M. Merrill, 19, of 40 Main St., North Reading, was arrested and charged with a city knife ordinance violation.
