A boy walking near Horace Mann School at 8 a.m. said a man came up behind him and put his hand over his mouth. The boy was able to elbow the man and ran home. Hours later, the boy was on the playground behind the school when he noticed the man again and ran home to tell his mother, who called police.
The boy said the culprit is approximately 35 years old, white with dark brown hair down to his shoulders and a beard covering the throat. The suspicious man was wearing a white tank top with a black shirt over it, black pants with a black belt with fake bullets all around it and black Air Jordan sneakers.
The mother said she did not report the incident in the morning because her son had more details after seeing the man the second time. Police checked the Horace Mann School area but did not see the man.
Timothy D. Jackson, 34, of 248 Lafayette St., Salem, was arrested at 5:28 p.m. and charged with malicious destruction of property and two counts of assault with a dangerous weapon (a beer bottle), following a report of a fight near 240 Lafayette St. A witness told police a man, later identified as Jackson, was throwing beer bottles at two men and at the witness's car. Police found Jackson behind 248 Lafayette St., and he had a cut on his leg. Jackson was arrested and then taken to Salem Hospital, where he received five stitches.
Police received a report at 7:30 p.m. of patio table and umbrella stolen from a Dunlap Street home.
Police received a report at 7:32 p.m. of a pug on Crombie Street. Police responded and found the dog was safe at home.
Tiffany R. Connolly, 27, of 39 Kingston St., Boston, was arrested at 8:23 p.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license, following a report of a car striking a telephone pole on Bridge Street by Flint Street. Connolly told police she was driving outbound on Bridge Street when another motorist cut her off.
Thursday
Police received a report at 8:37 a.m. of a 2006 Nissan Altima stolen from Barcelona Avenue. The car owner believes she left the keys in the car. Police also received five reports of car break-ins on Barcelona Avenue, Pyburn Avenue and Clark Street. The break-ins occurred sometime between 9 p.m. Wednesday and 9 a.m. Thursday. All of the vehicles were left unlocked and electronics were stolen. One car only had $3 in change stolen.
Peter J. Mulvany, 28, of 99 Tremont St., Salem, was arrested at 5:05 p.m. and charged with domestic assault and battery on Tremont Street.

Thursday
Valery F. Etieundem, 25, of 29R Elm St., Bellingham, was arrested at 6:49 a.m. and charged with driving with a suspended license, following a motor vehicle stop on Main Street.
Police received a report at 10:19 a.m. of a car stolen from Walker Road.
A Lowe Street resident went to the police station at 1:04 p.m. to turn in a bullet he found on his driveway.
Swampscott
Tuesday
Christopher Sienicki, 20, of 17 Andrew Road, Swampscott, was arrested at his home at 4:23 p.m. and charged with assault and battery with a dangerous weapon, possession of a firearm without a identification card, threatening to commit a crime, and two counts of carrying a dangerous weapon.
Wednesday
Hannah Stone, 38, of 12 Clark St., Swampscott, was arrested at 1 a.m. and charged with domestic assault and battery at her residence.
Morgan H. Bogart, 20, of 47 Cherry St., Swampscott, was arrested at 11:17 a.m. and charged with disorderly conduct at his residence.
