Police contacted the DPW after a 4:22 p.m. report that a water main had broken in the vicinity of 433 Lowell St. and water was “shooting straight up from the street.”
A 7:41 p.m. report of a shoplifter at the J.C. Penney at the Northshore Mall resulted in the arrest of Gifty Samuels, 51, of 316 Essex St., Apt. A, Lynn, on a charge of shoplifting over $100.
A woman reported at 8:21 p.m. that she had seen a youth on Sheldon Road pick a dog up by the scruff of its neck, shake it violently, punch it in the face and then throw it in a house. “She approached youth and asked for his mother, who did not seem to care that the dog was just abused,” wrote police. An officer later spoke with the youth and his mother and advised them not to discipline the dog that way again.
Police received a 10:24 p.m. report that a skinny white man who was drinking a beer had chased employees into the front of the Peabody Glen nursing home at 199 Andover St. Police were unable to locate him.
A Peterson Road woman reported that two foxes were on her property at 8:10 a.m.
A woman was advised not to return to Pat’s Discount at 77 Main St. after a 10:39 a.m. report that somebody wanted to speak to an officer “regarding her baby’s father’s mother causing a problem.”
An Azalea Lane man reported a scam phone call at 11:16 a.m. “The resident stated that he received a call from out of state asking for a large amount of money for somebody’s bail,” wrote police.
Traffic was backed up for hours on Route 128 southbound after a dump truck with a compressor spun out in Lynnfield, a state trooper said. Police first received a report of the incident at about 4 p.m.
