Police: Woman in sandals gets foot stuck on gas pedal

SALEM — Police say a motorist in sandals crashed into a lengthy section of fence surrounding the Harmony Grove Cemetery on Wednesday evening after she got her foot stuck on the gas pedal.

Police responded to the area of the Harmony Grove Road after a 6:38 p.m. report of an accident. An officer determined that Elizabeth Andrews, 29, of Salem, had gotten her foot stuck on the accelerator of her Cadillac CTS, “causing her to swerve off the roadway” and strike about 70 feet of the chain-link fence, according to the incident log.

The fence was damaged, and the vehicle sustained four flat tires and possible undercarriage damage. No injuries were reported, and the Cadillac was the only vehicle involved.

Police determined Andrews was wearing sandals at the time of the accident and cited her for impeded operation, according to the log.

The vehicle was towed.

The Fire Department and Atlantic Ambulance also responded to the crash scene.
