An 11:11 p.m. report of a shoplifter at Shaw’s on Traders Way resulted in the arrest of Ellen M. Petrilli, 52, of 15 Magnolia Ave., Magnolia, on a charge of shoplifting.
A woman on Meadow Street reported at 11:18 a.m. that somebody had broken into her BMW and stolen the vehicle’s registration and keys.
A 12:51 p.m. report of an accident brought police to 129 Highland Ave. Subsequently arrested was Joseph William Dunton, 41, of 113 Weatherly Drive, Salem, on charges of drunken driving, following too closely and operating a motor vehicle without a license in possession. No injuries were reported.
Officers in the Special Response Unit stopped a car on Boston Street about 1 p.m., and a foot chase ensued, according to the log, but nobody was subsequently arrested.
A 2:20 p.m. report of possible harassment brought police to 56 Dow St. Subsequently arrested was Eric Noel Rentas, 26, of 3 Roslyn Court, Salem, on charges of two counts of intimidation of a witness and two counts of threatening to commit a crime, and John Neil Diaz, 21, of 11 Harbor St., Salem, on charges of two counts of intimidation of a witness and two counts of threatening to commit a crime.
A 2:41 p.m. report that a vehicle was blocking a driveway brought police to 26 New Derby St. Subsequently arrested was Philip Dana, 59, of the same address, on a charge of disorderly conduct.
Police and the Fire Department responded to a 3:31 p.m. report of a fire in a dental lab at 260 Essex St. “Upon arrival, Salem fire determined that the cause of the fire was some papers that were stacked upon a piece of equipment that became hot and ignited the papers,” wrote police. The fire was put out with an extinguisher.
