Briscoe Middle School principal to stay

BEVERLY — Briscoe Middle School Principal Matthew Poska, who was a finalist in the principal search at Arlington High School, did not get the job.

Arlington announced yesterday that it has selected Matthew Janger, the principal of Mount Desert Island High School in Bar Harbor, Maine.

Poska said he enjoyed the experience of applying for the job in Arlington and plans to stay in Beverly “for a long time.”

“There are some exciting things going on here, a lot of good things,” he said. “I’m fortunate to have been here for a while, and I’m hoping to be here for quite some time.”

Poska has been the principal at Briscoe Middle School since 2006. He was one of four finalists for the high school principal position in Arlington.

“I was very pleased with the whole process,” he said. “It allowed me to talk about all the good things we’re doing here at Briscoe and in Beverly.”
