Angie Miller wows 'American Idol' judges

BEVERLY — Angela Miller looked like a strong candidate for advancement on “American Idol” after she wowed the show’s judges during her live performance in Las Vegas last night.

The 18-year-old Beverly contestant performed Colton Dixon’s “Never Gone” to acclaim from all four judges on the show, which was broadcast from the Mirage casino.

“The trumpets should sound when you walk in the room,” Nicki Minaj said to Miller after the performance. “I mean, can I just get your album?”

Randy Jackson called Miller “mad-talented” and said she was “going places.”

“You are born to do what you are doing,” Jackson said. “Keep on going.”

Keith Urban and Mariah Carey both applauded Miller and said they were glad to see her back at the piano, referring to her previous performance of “You Set Me Free,” a song she wrote herself.

Although Miller impressed the judges, it’s the viewing public who will vote to decide which 10 of the 20 contestants will advance to the next round of the show.

Miller, the daughter of Tana and Guy Miller, co-pastors at the Remix Church in Salem, graduated from Beverly High School in June and declined several music scholarships in order to try out for the show, which is now in its 12th season.

Miller will find out whether she advances to the next round when the show announces its finalists tomorrow night.
