---- — IPSWICH — A North End restaurateur plans to open an Italian restaurant on Central Street, in the space where Rossini’s Pizzeria recently closed. The 65-seat restaurant is expected to open in early May.
The restaurant will be named Mamma Luisa, said owner Frank Pellino, who operates Pellino’s Ristorante in Boston’s North End. Pellino’s started out in Marblehead and moved to the North End last year.
Pellino, 49, bought the Central Street building, which includes Zabaglione Ristorante, six years ago.
“That was one the reasons I bought the building,” said Pellino, who has been cooking since he was 15. “I always had it in my mind if they (Rossini’s) left, I would open a restaurant. The timing could not have been better.”
He said his restaurant will be more casual than Zabaglione’s, and the two restaurants should complement each other well.
“I think my concept will do well,” Pellino said. “My food is casual. We make fresh pasta, we bake our breads fresh daily and our desserts. It is regional, rustic and authentic.”
