---- — PEABODY — A 24-year-old woman was hit by a car and seriously injured last night while walking Andover Drive.

The woman, who was not identified by police last night pending family notification, was taken by ambulance to Mass General Hospital in Boston. She was believed to have serious head injuries, according to Sgt. Robert Waugh. He said police had several addresses for the woman, but believe she was living in Middleton.

The accident occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. Police said the woman was walking across Andover Drive, a side street off of Route 114, not far from the Northshore Mall, when she was struck by a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer driven by Nicholas Hernandez, 22, of 4B Andover Drive. Police said the driver was making a left-hand turn onto Andover Drive from Route 114.

A state police reconstruction team remained at the scene for hours after the accident was reported. Route 114 was shut down briefly while the team investigated, Waugh said.

The accident remains under investigation and no citations have been issued.

“We will wait for the state police investigation on that,” Waugh said.
