Thursday

A “strange noise” at Buttonwood and Strawberry Hill lanes was reported at 7:02 a.m., but an officer later called the report “unfounded.”

Police and the Fire Department responded after an 8:30 p.m. report that a motorist had driven over the guardrail at the end of River Street and onto the rocks below, stopping about a foot shy of the water. An officer at the scene said the car would have landed in the water if it hadn’t been low tide and that the male driver was shaken up but uninjured. It was unclear what caused the crash, but a witness reported that the car didn’t slow down as it approached the end of the road, the officer said.
