Police: Woman discovers intruder

SALEM — Police say a Conners Road woman who woke up to banging noises in the middle of the night went to her living room and found an unknown man trying to unplug her television.

The incident occurred at 14 Connors Road and was reported to police at 2:43 a.m. yesterday. Five officers converged on the scene and searched the area with the aid of a K-9 unit but they were unable to locate the suspect, who was described as wearing a dark, hooded jacket, baggy pants and gloves.

The woman had gone to investigate noises she heard in her living room when she happened upon the man, who apparently made off with a Bose stereo but left the television behind, said police Lt. Scott Englehardt.

“She yelled at him and he took off,” said Englehardt. “She never saw his face.”

The man ran out the front door, according to a log item about the incident. It was unclear how he got into the building.
