Salem High to deliver 'Rent'

SALEM — The smash Broadway musical “Rent” will be performed this weekend by the Salem High School Drama Club.

The production features more than 50 actors, designers and crew members from Salem High.

The 1996 Tony Award-winning musical tells the story of struggling artists and musicians living in New York City in the early 1990s. It is based on Puccini’s opera “La Boheme” and uses rock music to portray young bohemians struggling with poverty, addiction and isolation.

There are three performances in the high school auditorium: tomorrow and Saturday at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m.

Tickets are $12 for reserved seating, $10 general admission, and $7 for students and seniors. Reservations can be made by calling 978-740-1136.
