Winners announced in congressional art contest

BEVERLY — Riley McCarthy, a senior at Manchester Essex Regional High School, has been named Grand Award winner in this year’s 6th Congressional District High School Art Awards.

The awards were presented Saturday by Congressman John Tierney at a ceremony at Montserrat College of Art.

Other local award winners include:

First prize: Maxx Manfre, Beverly High School

Second prize: Jose Tejada, Peabody Veterans Memorial High School

Third prize: Alicia Quimby, Masconomet Regional High School

Honorable mention: Julia Paccone, Manchester Essex; Jessica Giacchino, Masconomet; Rachel Wallace, Newburyport High; and Claire Weaver-Zeman, Swampscott High School.

Awards were also presented for “Best of School” at all participating high schools. Local winners included:

Bishop Fenwick: Amanda Harrington

Danvers High: Katherine Lantych

Hamilton-Wenham: Chloe Leigh

Home-schooled, Salem: Kaitlyn Fabre

Ipswich High: Luke Welling

Landmark School: Motoria Usovicz

Marblehead High: Mosheh Tucker

St. John’s Prep: Henry Gustafson

St. Mary’s High School: Maria Afflitto

Swampscott High: Colleen Curtis

The exhibition was judged by William Trayes, a Gloucester art collector, and Katherine Romansky, owner of Mingo Gallery in Beverly.

Each winner received a citation from Tierney and varying levels of scholarships to Montserrat College of Art’s summer pre-college program. The grand-prize-winning piece will be sent to Washington, where it will hang in the Capitol building for a year along with winners from other congressional districts across the country.
