$15K in sunglasses stolen at mall

PEABODY — Somebody stole more than $15,000 worth of sunglasses from a kiosk at the Northshore Mall between Tuesday night and yesterday morning, police said.

A manager at Sunglass Hut reported to mall security that she had discovered two glass cases on the kiosk had been pried open when she went to open up yesterday at 9:40 a.m., according to the incident log. Mall security then called police.

Missing were 18 pairs of Gucci glasses worth $5,400, as well as 15 pairs of Coach glasses worth $2,700 and 28 pairs of Marley glasses worth $7,000, Lt. Arthur Yeo said.

Yeo said the woman said she had secured the kiosk after closing up around 9 p.m. the night before.

Sunglass Hut has been targeted by thieves before, he said.

The Northshore Mall has 24-hour security, and multiple people work there overnight, Yeo said.

Police are investigating.
