9 patients evacuated after report of oxygen leak at Lahey Clinic in Peabody

PEABODY — A report of an oxygen leak at Lahey Clinic Medical Center in Peabody earlier this evening resulted in the evacuation of nine patients and 15 staff members.

The leak has since been stopped.

According to officials at the scene, eight of the nine patients were taken to Lahey Clinic in Burlington; six were transported by ambulance, while two drove themselves down.

Firefighters treated the incident as a HAZMAT situation, and at one point were told to put on protective gear, according to scanner reports.

Traffic was also affected in the area.
