It's movie night on Salem Common

SALEM — Things slow down a little tonight on Salem Common, following yesterday's Witches Cup races. Tonight, you can relax and see an independent movie, shot partly in Salem. It's a light comedy, written by Jessica Cook, about a girl who has a bad job, a crazy family and a failed romance and is about to give up on the world — until a new guy comes to town.

THURSDAY

Shelter to Showpiece House Tour, 11 a.m., Peabody Essex Museum. Tour the historic houses at the Peabody Essex Museum and experience three centuries of Salem. Free for Salem residents; for out-of-town patrons, included in regular museum admission fee. Check in at the admissions desk prior to the tour. 978-745-950 or pem.org

Salem Farmers' Market, 3 to 7 p.m., Derby Square at Front Street. Local farmers sell fresh produce, organic breads, seafood, baked goods, eggs, flowers, wine and more. SalemFarmersMarket.org

Movie on the Common, 8:30 p.m., Salem Common. The independent movie "Sunblocked," which was shot in part on Winter Island, will be screened. Bring popcorn and a blanket or lawn chair. Free.

FRIDAY
