Big Woods Hike, noon to 1:30 p.m., Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary, 87 Perkins Row, Topsfield. Sanctuary naturalists will lead small groups every 15 minutes for a walk to the “Big Woods” on Averill’s Island. Hear stories of the original settlers, learn about the cultural history of the sanctuary and look for animal signs. Outside program lasts about two hours. Dress warmly and comfortably. Warm up by the wood stove upon return. Hot drinks, homemade soups and desserts available for purchase. Rain or shine. Open to adults and families with children ages 5 and older.
