Police: Woman arrested in Friday bank robbery

PEABODY — Police say they’ve arrested the woman who robbed the Eastern Bank on Lynn Street late last week.

Marnie Tomasian, 40, of 9 Frank St., Worcester, was arrested yesterday in Chelsea on a warrant with a charge of armed robbery, according to a press release from Detective Michael Crane. Tomasian was expected to be arraigned at Peabody District Court today.

The incident occurred about 3:30 p.m. Friday, when a woman with a dark shirt and a bandana on her head approached a teller at the bank’s transaction counter and handed over a note demanding cash.

No weapons were shown during the incident, though police said the woman’s note stated she had one. After the clerk handed over an undisclosed amount of money, the woman fled on Lynn Street, possibly in an older-model, gold-colored Chevrolet Malibu or Impala.

There were no injuries reported during the incident.

“Similar incidents are continuing to be investigated by various other jurisdictions,” Crane wrote in the release.
