Cruiser crashes into pole, parked car

BEVERLY — Police are investigating a crash in which a police cruiser went off the road and struck a parked car and a utility pole Sunday night.

The officer who was driving the cruiser, Kevin Coletti, was not injured, according to police.

The crash took place around 8:30 p.m. in the area of 135 Essex St., down the street from Hurd Stadium. Acting police Chief Chris Negrotti said it does not appear that speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Negrotti said Coletti was the only person in the cruiser. There was damage to the cruiser, a utility pole and the parked car, the chief said.

Sgt. Russell Rollins, the department’s traffic and safety officer, is investigating. Negrotti said results will be released when the investigation is complete.
