Peabody robbery suspect arrested

PEABODY — Police say a man who lives less than a mile from the Holden Oil station on Lynnfield Street has been arrested in connection to the armed robbery of that business on Tuesday night.

John Doucette, 23, of 351/2 Lynn St., Peabody, was arrested on a charge of robbery while armed and masked when he turned himself in at the police station with his father and attorney around 6 p.m., Sgt. Robert Waugh said. A warrant for him had been issued earlier in the day.

Doucette was being held without bail at Middleton Jail last night and was expected to be arraigned at Peabody District Court this morning.

The robbery occurred when a white man wearing a black ski mask went into the business at 91 Lynnfield St. shortly before 9:30 p.m. and showed what police said was a semiautomatic handgun. The robber made off with an undisclosed amount of cash and may have gotten in a vehicle afterward.

The suspect was described as being 6 feet tall and was wearing a black Nike sweatshirt and blue jeans with a designer rip on the side at the time of the incident.

Nobody was injured during the robbery.

It was unclear how police linked Doucette to the robbery.
