Demolition of house expected to begin Tuesday

MARBLEHEAD — The work to tear down the house at 74 Bubier Road has begun.

Yesterday, windows were boarded up and workers labored in an empty first floor to strip the house bare. Demolition of the approximately $800,000 property is expected to begin soon.

"They have a permit to demolish the house," said Marblehead Building Commissioner Robert Ives. Crews are removing windows and doors and have cut all utilities to the house. Workers are also stripping out interior components of the house.

Ives expects the work to "physically take it down" to begin Tuesday.

The owner of the house, Wayne Johnson, has been on the losing side of a 16-year legal battle over the house, which the courts have ruled violates town zoning regulations. A judge has ordered it demolished.
