---- — SALEM — Police say a local man who was arrested yesterday on drug distribution charges sold heroin to undercover officers on numerous occasions over the past month.
Detective Kevin St. Pierre said Wellington Pinales-Garcia, 24, of 5 Porter Street Court, Salem, was arrested on charges of four counts of distribution of a Class A substance to undercover officers and possession of a Class A substance with intent to distribute.
“We’ve received some neighborhood complaints about drug activity in the area of Cherry and Cedar streets,” St. Pierre said, adding that officers investigating those complaints monitored activity in the area, identified a suspect and then initiated the undercover buys.
After Pinales-Garcia was arrested yesterday, a search warrant was served at his home, where police confiscated heroin, almost $2,000 in cash and two cellphones, St. Pierre said. A 2001 Infiniti sedan was also seized.
It was the second heroin-distribution arrest in Salem since last week. Police arrested an Essex Street man on similar charges on Oct. 3. In that bust, police seized more than $5,000 in cash and a Ford Explorer, in addition to a quantity of heroin.
