Man nabbed in Peabody pharmacy holdup

PEABODY — Police arrested a man yesterday after he allegedly robbed the pharmacy inside Hannaford Supermarket on Lowell Street for prescription drugs.

Stephen M. Sharry, 56, of 2 Hoover Ave., Peabody, was charged with armed robbery with a firearm.

No injuries were reported.

Lt. Arthur Yeo said Sharry walked into the pharmacy early yesterday afternoon and told the pharmacist, “I have a .45-caliber gun” and demanded Adderall and Tussionex. The pharmacist complied, handing the drugs over in a bag. Then Sharry allegedly told her to lie on the ground and “stay there for five minutes” while he made his getaway.

No gun was shown during the robbery, but the suspect kept his hand in his pocket and the staff believed he had one, Yeo said.

Police reviewed security cameras from the store and brought a picture of the suspect — described at the time as a white man approximately 50 to 60 years old, between 5-foot-8 and 5-foot-10 — to a nearby CVS, where staff recognized him, Yeo said.

Police arrested Sharry at his home later in the afternoon.
