Police: Mystery pair attack man in Salem

SALEM — There was no treat when a man on Brown Street heard a knock on the door in the early hours of Sunday morning.

The man told police he was staying with a friend at the time, and after a night out, they came back to the apartment along with a group of people. At this point, they heard knocking on the door.

Answering it, the victim reported “a hand wrapped around his throat,” according to the log at 1:14 a.m., “dragged him into the hallway, and he was slammed against another apartment door, damaging it.”

Two men had attacked him, according to the victim. They soon ran down the stairs and out the front door. The victim “immediately gave chase, but when he arrived outside, the two men were gone.”

The victim did not give detailed information about the men who attacked him, saying only they were about 25 years old. He told police that the incident had left him without physical injuries.

The neighbor whose door was damaged told police she would inform the landlord.
