Found phone leads to drug arrests

SALEM — Two people were arrested on heroin charges Tuesday after a cellphone turned over to police began ringing with calls from people looking for drugs.

The cellphone was found near 45 Federal St. and turned in to police around 3:30 p.m., according to police logs. While officers attempted to identify its owner, they received several incoming calls from people apparently looking to buy illegal drugs.

Police say an undercover officer managed to set up heroin deals with two of the people who called.

Clinton Henderson, 33, of 17 Leavitt St., Salem, and Kristy Lynne Silva, 29, of 47 Leavitt St., Salem, were each subsequently arrested on a charge of illegal possession of a Class A substance.

Henderson was arrested on Salem Street behind Saltonstall School after purchasing an unspecified amount of heroin from the officer, according to the logs.

Silva was arrested second, after she allegedly arranged to purchase a $30 bag of heroin from the officer.

“She supplied the undercover officer with $26 in bills and $4 in pennies,” police wrote.

Police are continuing their investigation.
