MIDDLETON — McDonald's is coming back to town.
Middleton officials said the restaurant company is readying plans to raze the old building and build anew in the same spot.
"We're just glad that the restaurant is maintaining a presence in Middleton and they're rebuilding on the same site," Town Administrator Ira Singer said.
The restaurant closed at the end of September. McDonald's officials have applied for a demolition permit to wipe out the aged building at 255 S. Main St. The building permit may get picked up next week.
The restaurant company, which owned the business but leased the land, still has to file plans for the replacement building. Those plans ultimately would be reviewed by the town's Zoning Board of Appeals.
Singer said the old restaurant, once a Burger King, needs to be torn down because of basic problems with plumbing and other infrastructure. It's now boarded up and blocked off with concrete barricades.
He didn't know when construction could begin.
A McDonald's spokesman said the company is still evaluating options and has not established a time line or determined the size or appearance of the new restaurant.
