DANVERS — A woman told police she was grabbed from behind while walking to her car Tuesday night at a Route 1 parking lot, dragged to the woods and raped.
The woman had been at T.G.I. Friday's with friends and was attacked when she left at 10 p.m., police said.
"She was going to her car at the back end of the parking lot and was grabbed by the suspect," police Capt. Ed Plamowski said.
No weapon was shown, but the victim's life was threatened, he said.
The woman told police she was dragged to a wooded area next to Costco on Route 1 and sexually assaulted. After the assault, police said the man fled on foot north, toward Route 114.
The victim went to a local hospital, where staff there contacted police at 3:33 a.m.
Plamowski did not want to say how the victim got to the hospital or which hospital the woman went to. He did not know if she was admitted.
The attacker is described as a tall white man with a thin build in his early 30s. He was clean-shaven and had blond, short, cropped hair. He was wearing a black jacket, blue jeans, black boots and black gloves. He had a Boston or Revere accent, the woman said.
Danvers police, led by Detective Eric Clarizia, are working with the state police crime lab. They processed the crime scene in the woods along Route 1 early yesterday.
Plamowski said he knows of no other rapes in the area recently.
"These types of things are not common for us," he said.
"If anyone saw any suspicious people in that area or if anybody saw anything suspicious last night, please call us at 978-774-1388."
