SALEM — Police arrested three men who they say chased and beat up a landlord in order to steal rent money.
Police responded to 22 Boston St. at 7:14 p.m. after the victim told police he was robbed of the rent money he was counting. He said two or three men got out of a green car and started chasing him.
The landlord ran into the building, the men burst in after him and a fight ensued, police said. The landlord was knocked to the ground. He told police one of the men brandished a gun.
The men got back in their car and sped off, police said.
An investigation led police to a Harbor Street address two hours later; there, they made three arrests two hours later.
Carlos Vieira, 31, of 2 Esquire Circle, Peabody; Christopher Hassapis, 40, of 286 Washington St., Salem; and Pedro Alix, 45, of 92 Congress St., Salem, were charged with home invasion, armed robbery, assault with a dangerous weapon, and assault and battery at 22 Boston St.
All three were held without bail and will be arraigned today at Salem District Court.
