Antique cars will be part of July 4 parade

BOXFORD — More than 50 antique cars will be among the highlights at the town's annual Fourth of July parade on Saturday. But there'll be plenty more, including children riding decorated bicycles and scooters, fire trucks from Boxford and other communities, and floats.

The parade steps off at 10 a.m. from the intersection of Cahoon and Topsfield roads and moves on to the East Village fire station. Activities usually wrap up by 11:30 a.m.

Boxford's other July 4 tradition is the annual Jennifer Tinney Memorial Road Race, which begins at 8 a.m. with a 5-mile run on scenic roads, a 2.5-mile fitness walk and a 1-mile fun run for children.

Races begin in East Boxford at the intersection of Middleton and Georgetown roads near the community center. People can register online through Friday at baasports.com, or in person between 7 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. Proceeds benefit a scholarship at Masconomet High.

Boxford is the only Tri-Town community with official Fourth of July festivities. Topsfield and Middleton have no celebrations planned.
