DANVERS — A 28-year-old from Missouri man led police on a search in freezing temperatures last night near the former Danvers State Hospital.
The man was later found with the help of the Fire Department's infrared camera.
Police received a report at 7:12 p.m. of a suicidal man who left his ex-girlfriend's apartment on Kirkbride Drive and went out into the woods nearby.
Police Lt. Carole Germano said police were told the man took drugs and alcohol.
"That's all we knew," Germano said.
Police asked the Fire Department to respond to use their heat-sensing camera, and they soon found a man crouched behind a tree.
The man, whom police would not identify, was about 150 feet from the top of the hill. He did not resist police.
Police later learned the man took ibuprofen and alcohol. He was taken to Beverly Hospital by Lyons Ambulance for evaluation.
Police Sgt. Richard Stoney and Patrolmen Scott Frost, Dana Martin and Roland Levasseur helped search for the man, along with fire Lt. Ken Reardon and firefighter Peter Carter.
