Man, 70, charged in indecent assault at nursing home

SALEM — A 70-year-old man was arrested at Grosvenor Park Nursing Home yesterday after police said he assaulted a patient.

Carlos I. Olivencia of 27 Charter St., Salem, was charged with indecent assault and battery on a person 14 years of age or older and assault and battery on an elderly or disabled person.

Olivencia was released on $1,000, and he'll be arraigned today at Salem District Court.

A staff member told police at 4:30 p.m. that she walked into the victim's room to deliver food. That's when she found Olivencia engaged in a sexual act over the patient, according to a police report.

Nursing home staff said the victim has dementia. The victim had no memory of Olivencia being in the room when she was questioned by police.

Police said Olivencia's wife is a patient in the nursing home. Police issued Olivencia a no-trespass order.
