Take an ocean dip for charity on New Year's Day

SALEM — The fourth annual “Freeze Your Tush Off” ocean plunge will take place tomorrow.

The 11 a.m charity event is being moved to a new location this year — the boat ramp at Winter Island Park.

The nearby function hall will be open from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. for participants to warm up. Refreshments also will be served.

The event raised more than $5,000 last year for the Salem Pantry, which provides food to needy families. Checks are accepted, along with canned goods and nonperishable items.

“Anything that people can contribute is great,” said Becky Christie, founder of the charity event.
