Police: Jackhammering leads to assault

---- — BEVERLY — Police say a woman was arrested yesterday morning after she vented her frustration with early morning jackhammering by throwing a beer bottle at a police officer.

Clover Valasunas, 37, of 28 Charnock St. was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and disorderly conduct.

The incident began around 8:25 a.m., when an officer on a private detail for roadwork on Charnock Street heard a woman yell and saw a plastic bottle land near him in the street, Officer Dave Costa said in an email.

When the officer looked up, the woman allegedly yelled, “Shut up!”

“She was advised to close the window if the noise was bothering her,” Costa said. “As the officer continued to watch the window, Valasunas returned and this time threw a glass beer bottle out of the window. The officer had to jump out of the way in order to avoid being hit.”

The officer yelled for Valasunas to come down and speak with him, but she didn’t come out. After backup officers arrived, police made their way into the apartment and arrested her, Costa said.

When asked why she threw the bottle, Costa said Valasunas replied: “Why the hell do people jackhammer at 8:30 in the morning?”

Costa said jackhammering can legally begin as early as 7 a.m.
