Two locals move on in Hoop Shoot

---- — Two youngsters representing the Beverly/Salem Elks Club have advanced to the state competition in the annual Elks Hoop Shoot.

Matt Pitman made 20 of 25 free throws to win the boys 12-13 age category, while Jordan Butters sank 11 shots to win the girls 10-11 category in the East District competition on Saturday at Woburn High School.

Pitman and Butters will now participate in the state competition on Feb. 2 at Maynard High School.

Also faring well in the East District contest were Owen Keve (second place, boys 8-9), Bobby Jellison (third place, boys 10-11) and Nailah Pierce (fourth place, girls 12-13).

A total of 67 youngsters participated in the local contest on Jan. 13 at the Beverly School for the Deaf. The top finishers in each category were:

Nailah Pierce, Cassie Ingemi and Anaiis Straw (girls 12-13); Jordan Butters, Autumn Dionne and Rachael Owsiak (girls 10-11); Alanna Zaldivan (girls 8-9); Matt Pitman, Patrick Osgood and Matt Corneau (boys 12-13); Bobby Jellison, Cory Noonan and Harry Osgood (boys 10-11); and Owen Keye, Joseph Loreti and Nicholas Cole (boys 8-9).
