Pair arrested in strip club assaults

PEABODY — An argument between a husband and wife at the Golden Banana early yesterday morning resulted in both being arrested on assault charges, police said.

Police arrested Luis Gonzalez, 44, of 89 Harlett Place, Mountainair, N.M., on a charge of assault with a dangerous weapon and Wendy Gonzalez, 48, of the same address, on a charge of domestic assault and battery.

Lt. Arthur Yeo said the couple began arguing inside the club after the wife saw one of the performers pay “particular attention” to her husband. As the fight escalated, Wendy Gonzalez allegedly punched her husband, knocking off his glasses and getting the attention of the club’s bouncer.

When the bouncer tried to intervene, Luis Gonzalez pulled a knife on him, Yeo said. Then the couple fled.

Police received a report of the incident at 12:22 a.m. At the time, the husband was described as being white, about 30 years old, with a goatee, leather jacket, glasses, and a Portuguese and American flag tattoo on his neck, according to the incident log. He was seen walking away from the club on Route 1 with a woman with blond hair.

Yeo said officers found Wendy Gonzalez in the parking lot of Red’s Kitchen & Tavern and arrested her. Luis Gonzalez was found in a nearby tractor-trailer, asleep. He was awakened and arrested.

Police saw a knife in the center console of the truck, Yeo said.
