---- — Stuff your face with traditional Polish doughnuts on Tuesday, Feb. 12, at 6:30 p.m., during Cafe Polonia and Coffee Time Bake Shop’s second annual Paczki eating contest, at 118 Washington St., in Salem. Paczki are deep-fried pieces of dough shaped into flattened spheres with sweet filling, and covered with powdered sugar, icing or bits of dried orange zest. Paczki are consumed on Fat Tuesday, which, in religious traditions, marks the last day before 40 days of fasting for Lent begins.
The eating contest benefits the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Salem. Contest prizes include $100 in cash and gift certificates. Registration costs a voluntary donation of $10 for adults and $5 for kids. In addition to registation fees, 20 percent of Tuesday’s sales at Cafe Polonia and Coffee Time will be donated to the Club. For more information or to enter the contest, call Cafe Polonia at 978-745-0045, or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
