---- — DANVERS — Police say two brothers who were arrested yesterday afternoon as suspects in a number of local break-ins were found with jewelry, collectibles and mail.

Brian French, 28, of 1 Sutton St., Peabody, was arrested on charges of breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, receiving stolen property over $250, possession of a burglarious instrument and resisting arrest.

Matthew French, 27, of 11 Riverside Ave., Danvers, was arrested on charges of breaking and entering in the daytime for a felony, receiving stolen property over $250 and possession of a burglarious instrument.

An officer said police responded to a 12:17 p.m. report that two suspicious males were running through backyards on Briarwood Drive. Once on scene, an officer found an item on the ground — possibly a joystick — that seemed to indicate a housebreak had occurred.

While officers were eyeing nearby homes for signs of break-ins, another report came in that the same two males — and a green car they were said to be traveling in — had been seen near a Putnam Lane address.

A detective in an unmarked car got to that location first and observed the two brothers, the officer said. Uniformed officers arrived shortly thereafter and arrested the two.

The brothers are also suspects in a break-in on Prince Street, the officer said. No further details were provided, but the incident log indicates a residential break-in on that street was reported at 1:06 p.m.
