Sheriff: Chism attacked worker at DYS lockup

BOSTON — Accused murderer Philip Chism, 15, attacked a female staff member at the Department of Youth Services facility in Boston where he is being held without bail, Essex County Sheriff Frank Cousins confirmed today.

Chism is accused of robbing, raping and killing Colleen Ritzer, 24, of Andover, at Danvers High School on the afternoon of Oct. 22, 2013, and then leaving her body in a wooded area adjacent to the school.

Cousins confirmed that Chism assaulted the female staff member yesterday. The extent of her injuries are unclear.

Chism, meanwhile, was taken to Boston Medical Center for a mental health evaluation. He is under heavy guard by Essex County Correctional officers, Cousins said.
