Shooting reported at Mack Park in Salem

SALEM — A man was shot in the chest at Mack Park around 11 p.m. Saturday night, according to police.

He was taken to Salem Hospital and underwent surgery but is expected to survive, according to a press release from police.

Three young men were reportedly at the top of Mack Park when they were approached by two young men and “some conversation took place,” the release said. Each of the two men were alleged to have handguns, police said.

“Salem detectives are exploring any connection the men may have had and have conducted a number of interviews to further determine exactly what took place,” the release said.

No further information was available last night.
