Man held in Peabody slaying

A Peabody man has been charged with killing his girlfriend.

Franklin Castano, 43, of 50 Keys Drive, allegedly killed his 23-year-old girlfriend, whose body was found in a Keys Drive apartment this morning after Castano showed up at the Lynn police station and gave police a statement, officials said.

State and Peabody police were continuing their investigation, said Carrie Kimball Monahan, a spokeswoman for the district attorney's office, and are not releasing additional details.

Castano will be held overnight at Middleton Jail and is expected to be arraigned tomorrow in Peabody District Court.

The apartment complex is directly across the street from the Northshore Mall.

A private security guard hired by the complex was refusing entry to visitors this afternoon.
